Fall Garage Organization

October 4, 2013

As temperatures cool and you're getting ready to put away your spring and summer lawn care equipment, it's a great time to prepare your equipment for the winter months and organize your garage. Some simple steps will help you be more organized and better prepared for the cold weather. After your last mowing of the season, drain the fuel from your lawn mower and any other gas-operated equipment. Store them in a safe place that's out of the way and away from where children could be playing. Make sure any winter supplies like ice scrapers, snow shovels, generators, etc. are easily accessible and ready for when icy weather hits. Unhook all hoses from your outdoor faucets. If a hose is left attached, water remaining in the hose can freeze and expand into the pipe, breaking the line. Drain your hoses well before storing them inside the garage. It's also a great time to make sure you're caught up on all those monthly maintenance items like replacing your air filters and testing your smoke alarm batteries.
