Two Months to go Before The Move

March 20, 2015

Last week we talked about getting yourself organized three months before your move. We know moving locally in the Oklahoma City area or across country can be overwhelming to think about all at once. Here is our second section of moving tips for you to cover the time period two months out from moving. Two Months Before The MoveBegin The Sort Down - Give yourself enough time to sort and purge the house. Otherwise you may end up moving things that should otherwise be donated, trashed or given away. Here is a quick read to help you organize before the move. Have a Garage Sale – This is one of the best ways to get rid of items before your move, it helps minimize hauling things to donation centers and the dump. Remember one person’s trash is another person’s treasure. Here are some more garage sale tips for you. Order Supplies – If you aren’t having a professional company do your pack, then get your boxes, packing materials and labels ready. Special packing materials for dishes and wardrobe boxes save a lot of frustration on the other end of the move. Finish It Up – Now is the time to start using up all the things that are harder to move like open cleaning supplies, frozen foods, perishable items, and canned foods in the pantry. Measure It – Start making measurements and planning our where the big objects will go in the new house. It’s a lot easier on the other end if you know exactly where grandma’s clock is going as well as the giant sectional couch. Photograph it – Start photographing items for inventory so that you can note their condition. Make special notes on any valuables for insurance purposes. Choose Your Mover – Go back to your binder and decide on a moving company. Look over estimates and confirm your moving date. Everything you’ve done up to this point has prepared you for the last month of activity before the move. Next week we will talk about referring back to your binder and give you a weekly regiment to get everything done before you leave.
