Moving into Your New Home Made Easy

May 17, 2012

Now you have a new home. Only thing standing between your dream home and your enjoyment of it is your move! When you embark on a move there are several things you can do to make your life so much easier. Or you can procrastinate...throw everything into a series of unmarked boxes and sort it out on the other end. If you'd like some easy checklists to make it a smooth process we just happen to have some moving pointers for you. Preparing for the move:Toss and Dump - Systematically go through the house, (And the garage) room by room, with a box of garbage bags and a shredder. If you have your tools with you as you sort it saves time and makes it easier to dump and discard unwanted items. Pile Like Objects - Seems easy, but it makes so much sense to make sure you do not create junk boxes much like the junk drawers where the items were stored. This is your chance for a fresh start. Make sure you know what is going where. Sharpies are Your Friend - Labels are everything. It will be so much better for you on the unpack end if you write winter jackets, summer shorts, DVD player - rather than clothes, clothes, electronics. You'll be able to un-box and place items so much quicker. Get Their Number - Find all the numbers of your utilities, HOA, trash removal, and any important neighborhood information that will help you go down a list and set up the hook ups for all of your new companies. Make sure you know what you are responsible for and what your HOA takes care of. Making the Switch - Compile a list of all your credit cards, health cards, business accounts, magazine subscriptions, and in general any bills you receive or associations you belong to - then begin to change your address with all the companies. This can be a huge under taking. Don't forget websites you routinely place orders from including amazon.com, ebay, paypal, and the like. This will save you a lot of headaches when you realize after placing an order that your items are shipping to the old place instead of the new one. Give yourself time. Do not wait until the last minute to organize yourself for a move. You'll be glad you were thinking about it weeks in advance so that you have plenty of time to plan and keep your sanity. Now go enjoy your brand new home.
