Happy New Year, Happy New Home

January 4, 2013

The holiday meals are finished. All the decorations are down and tucked away for another 11 months. New Year's resolutions are fresh and at the top of everyone's to-do list. Where does a new home fall in your list of things to do in the New Year? Think about where you want to be by this time next year. Creative visualization is an amazing way to help you see yourself having achieved all of your resolutions. Picture yourself 20 pounds lighter, more successful at work, happier at home, and more physically fit. While you are at it, picture yourself in a new home! As a matter of fact, the well being and connectedness one feels when they have a home of their own can help reinforce other resolutions as well. The value of home, gives homeowners more of a sense of belonging. With a better sense of well being it is easier to achieve other goals. Take a look at this video with psychologist Dr. Robi Ludwig, who partnered with Coldwell Banker Real Estate to survey 2100 adults exploring how they feel about home ownership. Dr. Ludwig says, "People who rent tend to experience their environment as temporary. When people own, it's a different level of investment. Their homes becomes an extension of who they are and part of their identity." Now that the recession is over and the housing market is on the rise, the desire to own a new home is stronger than ever among Americans. Why shouldn't you include a new home amongst your New Years resolutions?
