Flooring Trends for 2019

December 12, 2018

Believe it or not, 2019 is almost here. The past few months have given our Ideal Homes design professionals a sneak peek at what flooring trends will be hot for the upcoming year. If you're looking to build, here are some ideas for how you can have the most on-trend flooring in the neighborhood.

  1. High Contrast Wood Flooring - Wood floors have been a favorite among homeowners for several years now. Designers love the updated high-contrast wood where dark and light tones together give floors added visual interest. Homeowners appreciate that they hide scuffs and dirt and give the room a unique look. This choice really pays off by providing a big impact.
  2. Patterned and Textured Carpet - Don't be afraid to go bold with your carpet. Whether it's a pattern on your stairs or a more subdued pattern in a bedroom or study, carpet can add warmth and a cozy feel to any room. Many people are passing on the shag carpeting for low pile and cut and loop carpeting, which can offer homeowners all kinds of patterns and textures.
  3. Luxury Vinyl - Vinyl flooring has come a long way in the last few years. These days, many are so well-made it's difficult to tell between wood and luxury vinyl. The biggest benefit includes the durability of these almost indestructible floors. Water and scuff proof, these floors are a great choice for pet owners. Also, while they're higher in price than the cheap vinyl floors of the past, they're often more affordable than quality wood floors. Plus, you can find a huge assortment of colors and options.
  4. Consistent Flooring - In the past, flooring has often been used to define spaces. With the popularity of the open-concept kitchen and living area, people are now leaning toward a more streamlined approach. Whether it's wood, vinyl, or tile, keeping the same flooring throughout a space provides the clean look homeowners are looking for.
