Ideal Holiday Volunteer Opportunities in OKC Area

December 14, 2020

Christmas Lights on home in Greenleaf Trails - an Ideal Homes & Neighborhoods community. If you believe the true spirit of the holidays is found in giving to others, volunteering may be the perfect way for you and your family to help spread cheer this year. Here are just a few of the many deserving OKC-metro-area organizations that could use your assistance in making our fellow Oklahomans’ lives a little brighter.

Meals on Wheels of Norman Meals on Wheels of Norman serves ill, disabled and elderly residents of the community year round. As a result, individuals 16 and older with a valid driver’s license are always needed as regular or substitute volunteer drivers to deliver meals. However, during the holidays the whole family can get involved in such seasonal events as the Poinsettia Sale Telethon and delivery. To learn more about the volunteer options available at Meals on Wheels of Norman click HERE. The Salvation Army There are a number of family-friendly volunteer opportunities available at the Salvation Army. These include assisting clients with shopping at the Client Choice Food Pantry; helping to provide, prepare or serve food at the Red Shield Diner; bell ringing for donations at a variety of locations around town; and more. The Hugs Project The Hugs Project provides care packages and other services to active members of the military. This year the organization will be sending more than 700 special holiday care packages to deployed service members. This organization offers a variety of volunteer opportunities year round, which includes making homemade Christmas ornaments. Learn more about how you can help HERE. City Rescue Mission In addition to offering meals, temporary shelter and services to help folks experiencing homelessness or food insecurity get back on their feet; the City Rescue Mission also provides many volunteer opportunities for people of all ages. Sharing Tree This metro area nonprofit serves families in need by providing a no-cost, dignified shopping experience. The facility is laid out like a department store where visitors, all of whom have been referred by a partner agency, can “shop.” year-round for clothing, household items, and basic necessities. Volunteers help with such duties as stocking shelves, assisting shoppers, performing clerical duties or delivering collection boxes. Investigate ways you can help HERE. So Many Others We’ve barely scratched the service of all the many ways and places you and your family can volunteer this holiday season in the Oklahoma City area.
