Mustang is a vibrant community where a small-town quality of life is on display every day. Located at the southwest gateway to the metro Oklahoma City area, with almost 20,000 actively engaged residents and award-winning community events, there is always something to do in Mustang. The city boasts a powerhouse Parks and Recreation Department, which hosts diverse events year-round, ranging from Summer Concerts in the Park and Flicks & Floats at the Aquatic Center, to a LEGO Club for aspiring engineers, Library reading events for all ages, Friday Night Dance Parties and a whole schedule of celebrations surrounding the end-of-year holidays. You really won’t want to miss these upcoming Events. 2018 Boots & Bling Dad and Daughter Dance Saturday, Feb. 24. Because it’s so popular, this year two dances are available: 5-6:30 p.m. and 7:30-9 p.m. at Mustang Town Center, 1201 N. Mustang Rd. Tickets are $10 per person and go on sale Jan. 22. Mustang Chocolate Festival Satisfy your sweet tooth at the 2018 Chocolate Festival and Silent Auction, at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 9, at the Mustang Community Center. You can purchase tickets for this delicious gala, which benefits the Friends of the Library, at the Library -- $8 to sample five decadent treats, including: homemade chocolates, cupcakes, chocolate covered bacon and many more delicious delights. Mustang Firemen’s Freedom Fest Who’s not up for a bean supper and monster fireworks show? Bring the entire family to Wildhorse Park, 1201 N. Mustang Rd., on June 30 for this annual event featuring an evening of food, live music, fire truck rides, fireworks, and fun. Western Days Your family will want to saddle up for 41st Mustang Western Days, Sept. 7-8. This annual community festival truly includes something for everyone, with a parade, rodeo, car show and a celebration of games and arts and crafts booths at the Town Center. The Mustang business community kicks off the festivities with a Western-themed decorating contest and chili cookoff. Cowboys and cowgirls compete for best dressed, and you can hear fine Gospel music on the main stage at the Wildhorse Park Gazebo. Friday is also opening night of the Rodeo at the Roundup Club Arena. Saturday starts with the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, while runners always look forward to the Western Stampede Run. With more than 100 floats and participants, the Western Days Parade highlights Saturday morning, so you’ll want to bring your lawn chairs and claim your seat along the route early. Spooktacular Halloween Carnival Mark your calendar for Spooktacular 2018, from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27 at Wildhorse Park. Intended for kids 11 and under, Mustang’s spooky Festival includes games, petting zoo, train rides, haunted house, inflatables, food vendors and lots more. Admission is free, as are all the games and activities. Kids are encouraged to wear their costumes, but please dress appropriately for an outdoor event. Winter Holidays 2018 Holiday celebrations begin in early December with the Festival of the Trees. While specific dates have not been set yet, you can click on the link to see 2017’s events. Kids enjoy crafts, games, balloon art and face painting. Then the Fire Department delivers Santa, and everyone joins together for the tree lighting and fabulous entertainment. But that’s not the end of the fun: Classes and activities throughout the month with ornament making, holiday cookie decorating and a weekend Breakfast with Santa. Keep watching.
