Ideal Homes Employees Lead Local Relay for Life

March 18, 2012

Here at Ideal Homes, we have a special connection to the Relay for Life, an annual fundraising event that benefits the American Cancer Society. Not only are we long-time participants, but two Ideal Homes employees, Kristy Dean and Suzanne Vicsek, co-chair the local event in Norman, Oklahoma. "Since so many of us have been affected by cancer, Relay for Life is a good way for us to give back to the community and try to make a difference," Kristy said. The cancer-fighting cause hits close to Ideal. Two employees and the wife of one of the owners are cancer survivors. We also lost a treasured member of the Ideal Homes team to the disease. Through our participation in Relay for Life, we strive to honor the memory of those who are no longer with us and celebrate the survivors. In addition to the 10 member Ideal Homes team, about 15 additional Ideal employees will work behind the scenes throughout the night. Various activities take place during the event, including a dinner honoring cancer survivors, caregivers and families. Also, Ideal Homes owner Gene McKown will help with a live auction. The relay is a 12-hour fundraiser that takes place at Norman High School on May 18 starting at 7 p.m. and ending at 7 a.m. on May 19. Team members gather pledges and take turns walking or running around the track in 30-60 minute intervals. Each participant is asked to bring in $100 or more in donations. Money is also raised through corporate sponsorships, and Ideal Homes is proud to offer its help once again. Around 400 - 500 people turn out for each year's event in Norman. Several other relays take place in the Oklahoma City metro from April to June, including events in Moore, Edmond, University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma City University.
